Repeat Liposuction-Curettage Treatment of Axillary Hyperhidrosis Effectiveness |

HYPERHIDROSIS KNOWLEDGE AND SCIENCE May 2007: Liposuction-Curettage Treatment of Axillary Hyperhidrosis Medical Publication: Repeat liposuction-curettage treatment of axillary hyperhidrosis effectiveness Acta Neurol Taiwan 16(1):64-5, 2007 Synopsis: Patients with repeat liposuction-curettage for treatment of their hyperhidrosis of the underarms have a decent success rate, however questions linger... Patients who previously had undergone liposuction-curettage for treatment of excessive sweating of the underarms, and who were not satisfied with their results, underwent a repeat procedure. The authors relate that 84% of those who underwent the repeat procedure were satisfied with their results in reducing their underarm hyperhidrosis / excessive sweating to an acceptable level. Conclusion: Although the authors relate that they adopted an "aggressive" approach in the repeat operation, they don't state why the first operation was not successful in reducing the excessive sweating. The results of surgical liposuction and curettage for underarm hyperhidrosis seems to be different than those of the sympathectomy for palmar hyperhidrosis. Although the liposuction/curettage technique may not always succeed, it does not appear to have the tendency towards compensatory excessive sweating elsewhere on the body that a thoracic sympathectomy can have. |
