A case report of two persons who unfortunately developed persistent small blisters on the palms as a result of their surgery to cure excessive sweating of the palms (palmar hyperhidrosis). One person's condition was resolved with creams, while the other one was not.
Conclusion: Clearly, any surgical procedure can have complications. These two people did experience a positive effect from the surgery, i.e. a decrease in palmar hyperhidrosis. However, although the excessive sweating improved, they suffered an unusual plugging up of the pores that lead to pomphylox, a bothersome blistering condition of the palms. It is assumed that the reduction in excessive sweating went overboard, so to speak, and created a new problem where the sweat was trapped under the skin and thus caused blistering. This is just one of the potential complications of surgical treatment of excessive sweating of the palms. The potential complications are something to seriously consider for people who suffer from hyperhidrosis / excessive sweating and are considering a surgical approach.
