Glycopyrronium bromide is an anticholinergic drug that can be taken orally to treat hyperhidrosis or excessive sweating. In a series of 24 patients, there were nine with generalized hyperhidrosis and 15 with localized hyperhidrosis. Of this group, 79% responded well to the treatment with oral glycopyrronium bromide. However, the authors state that the treatment had limited side effects in about one third of patients. Common side effects of anticholinergic drugs include dry mouth, blurred vision and occasionally, tremors.
Conclusion: As with all methods designed to treat excessive sweating, once again the benefits of the treatment must be weighed against the side effects. For very severe sweating sufferers, this may be a viable treatment. However, for localized sweating, the generalized side effects may be too disproportionate in comparision to the benefits to treat your hyperhidrosis.
