Remember the study
before this one (the Inguinal Hyperhidrosis article)?
All drugs can, of course, have side effects (more sweating, sweating in other areas, etc.)
as well as good effects (reduced sweating and odor).
Topiramate is a drug used to control seizures.
This seizure drug has the following side effect,
as in the case of glycopyrrolate, which is decreased
sweating. The authors of this particular article found that taking
this drug helped to reduce excessive facial sweating in certain anxious people.
Unfortuantely, there are other side effects to this drug which include fatigue,
memory problems, nausea, speech problems, dizziness, double vision, depression and abdominal pain.
Reduced facial excessive sweating pales in comparison when thinking about the aforementioned list of
side effects.
Conclusion: Yes, certain drugs can help to reduce excessive sweating. But watch out for the particular side effects and ask yourself if the risk is worth the benefit. In this particular case, it is not likely that the possible hyperhidrosis treatment is truly worth the risk of the other side effects.
