The authors review treatment methods for excessive sweating on the face. First and foremost, they acknowledge that facial hyperhidrosis, or excessive sweating of the face, may be secondary to other causes, such as thyroid problems, tumors, etc. Aside from using topical antiperspirants to treat facial hyperhidrosis, the authors cite the use of Botox injections. They caution that, although Botox can be effective for excessive sweating of the face, it is not without side effects. These can include facial assymetry and/or drooping eyelids. Also, use of Botox for facial hyperhidrosis can be expensive, as it is impermanent, and is not usually covered by insurance.
Conclusion: Excessive sweating of the face is certainly an embarrassing situation, and as one can imagine, leads to many embarassing and nervous sweating situations. Certainly, topical treatments should be the first line of treatment, but if all else fails, Botox can be a consideration. Of course, it is extremely important to rule out underlying causes of the facial hyperhidrosis, otherwise, any treatment method will be futile and the hyperhidrosis sufferer could end up wasting a lot of time and resources trying to solve their sweating problem in the wrong way(s).
